Mums-to-be, or mums of a baby under one, have an opportunity of trying out lots of baby essentials at a fair in York, which is being staged for the first time.

It's being organised by the local branch of the National Childbirth Trust and is called the Bumps and Babies Fair. It's being held at York College, Tadcaster Road.

A spokeswoman for the group said: "Having a baby can be a confusing and expensive time.

"The York Branch of the NCT has organised a fantastic event that aims to help and inform parents of young babies and parents to be about some of the options open to them.

"This is a bespoke event specifically for those expecting a new baby, or with a baby under 1 year old.

"It is the perfect opportunity to see and try out all the baby essentials and incorporates over 30 exhibitors ranging from baby equipment retailers to photographers, and doulas to alternative practitioners."

Among the 40 trade stands, there will be a number of free demonstrations, including pregnancy massage and baby music classes, and a large number of local business and other organisation will come together on this one day to simultaneously provide information and help to expectant and new parents.

They are also supporting the National Childbirth Trust and helping them to meet their aim to offer information and support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood to all parents to give them the opportunity to make informed decisions.

In an attempt to make the financial burden of those initial months easier the NCT has become renowned for it's Nearly New Sales.

This event will be accompanied by a sale covering bump-12 months, including maternity wear, prams, cots, buggies, toys, books and clothes.

Entry will be £2 for adults and free for children.

This story was carried in local newspapers and a commercial radio station broadcast the event on the hour, every hour during its news bulletins on the day before
